Prey 2022 May be the Worst Movie of the Year

I feel like I at least should have mixed feelings about this one, but that isn’t the case. I truly believe that Prey 2022 is a strong contender for worst movie of the year.

The plot follows along what all the other Predator movies have done in the past. A group of warriors are faced by an alien creature that uses unimaginable technology to hunt people down, as sport. The first iteration of the saga was great, Predator 1987 was thrilling, enjoyable and it had some memorable scenes. This newest addition is just what lazy writing does to a movie that had everything to surprise audiences.

What bothered me the most was how everyone speaks english, when they’re supposedly part of a Comanche tribe. I tried to look past the white washing and got read for action, but even those parts felt off. I felt like maybe I was watching another movie, because upon looking at the countless praises that the film was getting online, this should’ve been the greatest thriller of the year.

It really surprised me how Dan Trachtenberg, director of one of the best Black Mirror episodes, delivers such a bland movie to the table. He had everything at his disposal in order to make an instant classic, which is more disappointing each time that I think of it.

If predators are creatures so technologically advanced, how are they being outmatched by sticks and stones? It’s more believable when Arnold Schwarzenegger is gunning them down with his military knowledge, not when literally THE worst warrior of a Comanche tribe does it. This definitely is the worst predator out there, so maybe it wasn’t so bad that they took him out.

Overall, I gave this movie a 2/10, and maybe I’m being generous.
